Indigenous Orientation Workshop
Module 1: Land and Treaties
In this module, participants will discuss their connection to land and understand the concept of treaties though engaging in the blanket exercise and painting a piece of land that they love and feel safe at.




Module 2: Colonization of Turtle Island
Participants will reflect on colonization of different countries including Canada and get familiarized with 7 Grandfather Teachings. Youth will paint medalions to represent the teachings and create wampum belts that tell stories about themselves.




Module 3: Spirituality and Worldview




Module 4: Resilience
In this module, learners get to know how Indigenous people fought back and advocated for their rights and land through various social justice movements.




Module 5: Indigenous Communities
This module will introduce learners to various types of Indigenous communities who live in remote areas, rural reserves, urban reserves, cities and towns. Participants will learn about the Medicine Wheel, and how it represents teachings about everyone’s role in the community.






Module 6: Métis Nation
In this section we will learn about the history and culture of Métis people. We will talk about where the Métis people came from, the history of the Fur Trade, Louis Riel and the Red River Resistance. Discover the culture of Metis people, and the importance of the Manitoba Metis Federation.






Module 7: Inuit Culture




Module 8: Tying it all Together
at Turtle and Drum and then celebrated with lunch, photo session, graduation certificate ceremony, and watched a movie created by Indigenous people (Rez Ball)
